If you look very closely at the North Star, which is dead center, you see that it to is arching. It's not totally still. The closer the stars are to the northern sky, the less rotation.

Fuji Provia 100 film, Maxxum 7 35mm SLR, sturdy Manfrotto Tripod, and a remote cord with a shutter lock button. Then, just compose, and shoot in BULB. I kept the shutter open 45 minutes on this shot.

It takes a bit of experimenting. I shot 4 photos that night. This was the only one to come out. Wind knocking my camera over during one shot didn't help much.

I love these things! Looks like you got two planes that flew threw the shot blinking away.

Planes trails have been removed as best as I could.

sweet shot, how long was this? I've been thinking of buying an older manual camera to try these type of night shots, where I can do 5 min exposures or longer.

This was a 45 minute exposure at f/11 on FujiFilm Provia 100. Great film for night exposures like this.

oh wow, it came out very nice. what camera did you use? I hate how most digitals have a 30 second exposure restriction, or at least up to a couple min.

Well, my digital Maxxum 7D has a BULB setting, but usually any exposure after 2 minutes, and the CCD sensor starts to heat up and actually burns into my image in the upper left corner. I used my Maxxum 7 35mm for this and it worked great!
