Description
NJT SW1500 #502 is the last of it's kind in service on NJ Transit. It's sister units 500, 501 & 503 have been removed from service.
500 & 501 sit in a deadline in Hoboken and 503 was wrecked and sold off to a leasing company.

It's always very saddening when a railroad removes a member of their fleet from service. In fact, I think it's very sad in the case of the Acela HHP-8s that run for Amtrak. I mean, sometime within 1 year, they're all being replaced by the ACS-64. Now if they were 30, 40, maybe even 50 years old or more, then I wouldn't be very sad about this, but they've only been in service for 10 years, so they're all quite young, and the fact that Amtrak's killing them off at such a young age is actually very, very hard for me to bear. It's like when a puppy is born, and then 2 years later, its mother has another puppy and the older of the 2 puppies is killed as a result of the new puppy being born. It's really very sad. I'll be grieving this heavy loss for decades to come.
