We All Started Somewhere

Journal Entry: Wed Jul 16, 2008, 4:35 PM
In this entry I'm sharing with you 10 of my favorite photos from when I had absolutely no idea what I the hell I was doing. I learned a lot with my FujiFilm FinePix A303, even though it only had a 3x Digital Zoom and a 3.2MP sensor.

I pushed this camera to the limits very quickly and only owned it about a year until I had to move up to a more powerful system.

And now, the old timers (newest to oldest):

I took a few thousand photos with this camera and shattered its screen twice. Sadly most of the photos that I shot with this camera where lost due to a hard drive failure years ago. All that remains of its photography are the first few dozen photos in my gallery dating back to early 2003.

George Carlin, Dies At 71 Years

Journal Entry: Mon Jun 23, 2008, 1:56 AM
Make sure you toast your next beer to the man. The world will never be the same. Who will keep the yuppies and the liberals in check now?

At least he went out with a bang. I wonder if people will keep him in their phone books for the extra period of time.

Thunderstorm

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 8, 2008, 6:35 PM
I love this time of year. I absolutely love thunderstorms. Right now I'm enjoying some chill music with my windows open and my lights out watching the lightning dance across the sky. Got a nice cool wind blowing in my window. I might go take a walk in the storm. I love it.

New Glass

Journal Entry: Wed Jun 4, 2008, 8:40 PM
Another new lens added to the arsenal. Minolta 50mm f/1.7.

Already looking at picking up another. Looks like my next new toy will be a 500mm f/8 Prime Telephoto. It's another oldie from back in the Minolta 35mm days, but thats not an issue with me. All of my lenses are 35mm.

On another note, some of you may have noticed I've been posting a lot lately. I'm in a creative mood lately.

Yeah. Time for bed. Goodnight.

Film Scanner Works

Journal Entry: Fri May 16, 2008, 11:04 PM
Somehow my Nikon CoolScan 5000 ED now works on Windows Vista Ultimate x64 edition on Vista 32 drivers. I'm not asking any questions. If it's gonna work, then I'm happy enough with that. Maybe you'll see more film work from me now as it's not as much of a pain in the ass to transfer scans from my Windows XP 32bit Laptop.

Man With A Movie Camera

Journal Entry: Mon May 12, 2008, 12:33 AM
Some of you may have heard of this, but anyone who hasn't heard of it or seen it must. It's a silent film by Dziga Vertov from Soviet Russia back in 1929. The whole movie is about a video photographer who makes his rounds all about the city capturing everyday life from a photographers point of view.

The photography stills and video scenes are pulled off amazing, and with the 2002 audio score from The Cinematic Orchestra, it's even better. It's about an hour long, but its well worth it. I only wish I could revisit times like this with my camera.

Do yourself a favor and watch this movie

Orphaned Land

Journal Entry: Sat May 10, 2008, 11:17 AM
Do yourself a favor and listen to the entire Album "Mabool" by Orphaned Land. Regardless of your religious beliefs, the music is amazing. The band beautifully blends progressive metal with traditional ethnic Arabic vocals and music. The theme of the album is very biblical with the whole second half of the album being about the great flood.

I don't have much to say about that because I suck at writing reviews. All I can really say is listen to it for yourself. I am not a religious person and I get sucked into this album with every listen.

On another note, more shots from Tegan and more shoots with new models planned for the near future.

Transfer Application

Journal Entry: Sun May 4, 2008, 8:34 AM
As of yesterday, I submitted a transfer application to change crafts with NJ Transit. If more classes are being hired and all goes well I will be taken into the LETP (Locomotive Engineer Training Program).

It's an intense 18-month long program but in the end if taken seriously you get a pretty sweet, awesome paying job out of it. Just gotta deal with a 40-hour pay week with no overtime with lots and lots of studying and work for the next year and a half.

I'll be sure to post if I'm accepted into the program.

Time Lapse Video

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 13, 2008, 3:18 PM
I'm playing with my Time Lapse experiments again. I've just finished shooting another full length video on NJ Transit's Morristown Line from BILL (Hackettstown, NJ) to Hoboken. It is posted now on Rail-Videos.net and will soon be available on Flickr. Links at the bottom.

Also, been doing some film scanning too. Shot three rolls of Kodak Tri-X 400 on my Maxxum 7 35mm. Processed the film at Ramapo Universities photo lab with the help of ~bethlungaro and it for the most part came out awesome. I have more photos from the Glendale Power Station in this collection of 35mm scans and they will be online shortly.

Deftones Bootlegs

Journal Entry: Thu Mar 20, 2008, 12:01 PM
This is for all you Deftones fans that might read this. A little while ago I did a random search on Google for Deftones Bootlegs. First two results where hosted right from their official website.

They are both live shows. One from San Diego in 1992 and another from London in 2000. Both of them are album length and have fantastic audio quality. Very good downloads.

Tegan Summer Series

Journal Entry: Wed Mar 19, 2008, 12:35 PM
The old numbered Tegan series that I uploaded from last summer has been completely removed for modification. I have cleaned up the images much more and played with color to bring some other photos to the surface that didn't stand a chance before.

I will be resubmitting that series tonight titled as "Summer Beauty". Many of the original submissions from the first batch will no be reappearing. I've removed many due to brutal sun causing her to squint very heavy or harsh lighting washing out the shot.

I've learned a lot about portraits since then and hopefully if I shoot her again in the future I'll have a much better end result.

Stay tuned tonight for the uploads.

Gov Spitzer...

Journal Entry: Thu Mar 13, 2008, 2:25 PM
LOL...

I love how all these people on the internet are saying that they are in support of the girl "Ashley Alexandra Dupré" he was bangin' for $4,000 an hour.

I thought she was a whore? OH MAN! I LOVE THIS COUNTRY!

People say that the media should not be embarrassing her and all that bullshit. I'm sorry, but wasn't she directly involved in an $80,000 scandal involving the money of the tax payers of New York State? I don't think there any way you can dodge that one...

Oh well. I've seen her photos and, well... I'm not impressed. Surely not worth the 4 grand price tag. In fact, I've had way better for free and all I had to do was be a nice guy, go to a movie or a walk in the park now and then, give her a hug goodnight and show her I cared among other things.

Don't get me wrong, shes a pretty girl and all... but whats so special about a drug abusing run away from Jersey thats makes her worth that much money aside from nothing?

Give it by the end of the month and this Joe Average hooker will have Paris Hilton status with that shitty song she apparently has smeared all over MySpace.

Laser Corrective Eye Surgery

Journal Entry: Fri Feb 29, 2008, 6:15 PM
Had my surgery on Tuesday and didn't exactly have a LASIK procedure done. I ws chanmged to PRK due to me being very nervous on the chair. The difference btween the two is in LASIK your corneal flap is paled back, the laser work is done, and your flap is returned to its original possition.

PRK howver, your entire corneal flap is grinded away and the healing process can tak as aling as 7 days. I still cant see 100% but it gets better by the day. I can hardly see the screen or keyboard and I dont plan on doing any kind of spell check or edits just to give you an idea of my vision right now :-)

Hopfully by Tusday when I go for my post op ill be back!

Stolen Photos Deleted & Random Update

Journal Entry: Sat Feb 23, 2008, 12:49 PM
All six accounts that where the host to over 1,000 stolen photos from hundreds of photographers from RailPictures.net have been deleted by Flickr. Even though it is impossible to take legal action on an unknown anonymous user, I hope Flickr becomes more strict on their policy with Photography Copyrights.

Anyways, Lasik Surgery on Tuesday and a new car on Monday!

Ripped!

Journal Entry: Tue Feb 19, 2008, 5:41 PM
Thanks to my fellow deviants ~jdawg9806, ~illinoiscentral6070 & ~ZCochrane, I was notified that some of my work had been stolen along with hundreds of other photographers from RailPictures.net. Some of which I know personally, through work or just through the website itself.

These six Flickr accounts are LOADED with some of the best railroad photography on the internet. Problem being that none of it belong to this person. All the accounts are free accounts and are filled to the Flickr 200 for free limit.

The pages in question:

My stolen work:

Known stolen work from others I know or that I recognized:

I have reported my individual photos and the user him/herself to both Flickr and Railpictures.net and notified my buddy of the rip.

Again, thanks for the heads up guys!

I will continue to update as I find more known stolen work.
