Film Scanner Works

Journal Entry: Fri May 16, 2008, 11:04 PM
Somehow my Nikon CoolScan 5000 ED now works on Windows Vista Ultimate x64 edition on Vista 32 drivers. I'm not asking any questions. If it's gonna work, then I'm happy enough with that. Maybe you'll see more film work from me now as it's not as much of a pain in the ass to transfer scans from my Windows XP 32bit Laptop.

Somehow I'm not surprised. Nikon would like to sell you the newest version but well designed SW will be forward compatible. One tech magazine discovered that, in spite of Microsoft denials, that there are a number of DOS commands hidden inside of Vista that still work as designed 2 decades ago.

I dunno... whada you think?
=factorone33:iconfactorone33: May 18, 2008, 10:10:21 PM
Quite so. I use old DOS commands on the XP stuff I do at least once a week, and they work just fine.

People have to realize that Windows is an over-glorified extension of DOS with a graphical interface. I do recall Windows 3.1 having to be launched from DOS as a seperate system, and could be "exited" out of back into DOS to do extensive file commands.

See and all it took was a little time and waiting. 64 bit is still not viabile for everyday use, but i think by the next edition of windows its gonna be 64 or nothing. Slowly were getting there. The transition from 16 to 32 seemed like it happendso fast but I think thats because so few people had computers back then.
